An NNA Certified Notary Signing Agent (NSA) is a notary public who has been specially trained and certified to handle loan and real estate documents on behalf of lenders and title companies.

The responsibilities of an NSA include receiving documents electronically, printing them, meeting the signer and notarizing their signature, and promptly returning the documents to the lender or title company for processing.

Notary Signing Agents have access to a borrower's private financial information and meets them in their homes; therefore, the mortgage finance industry requires that NSAs undergo a stringent annual background screening. NSAs also have to pass an exam and adhere to a professional code of conduct. A Notary Signing Agent is held to the highest standards of practice for professionals in the settlement services industry.
